UNICEF (Project Shield)

Strengthening Health Impact through Engagement, Leadership & Dialogue

The UNICEF–CHAN SHIELD Project is a flagship community engagement initiative designed to accelerate the successful introduction of the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine and intensify the uptake of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine across Nigeria. Implemented by the CHAN in partnership with UNICEF, the project responds to persistent gaps in immunisation coverage driven by vaccine hesitancy, misinformation, and limited community trust.

UNICEF–CHAN PACE Project

               Polio Accountability and Campaign Efficiency

The UNICEF–CHAN PACE Project is a strategic partnership designed to strengthen the quality, efficiency, and accountability of Polio Supplemental Immunisation Activities (SIAs) across high-risk states in Nigeria. At a critical time in the global push toward polio eradication, the project addresses one of the most decisive, but often overlooked, drivers of campaign success: the timely, transparent, and accountable facilitation of operational payments.

Implemented across 15 high-priority states (Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara), PACE supports the seamless execution of Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilisation (ACSM) and Vaccine Supply and Logistics (VSL) activities by ensuring that frontline workers, community influencers, and service providers are mobilised, compensated promptly, and fully supported to deliver high-quality campaigns.

Zero-Dose Elimination through Outreach & Immunisation Transformation

The UNICEF–Republic of Korea (ROK)–CHAN ZERO-IT Project is a transformative immunisation systems strengthening initiative designed to reach zero-dose and under-immunised children in some of Nigeria’s most vulnerable and underserved communities. Implemented through a strategic partnership between UNICEF, the Republic of Korea, and CHAN, the project directly contributes to Nigeria’s efforts to close immunisation gaps, strengthen routine immunisation systems, and protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases.

The project is currently being implemented across 104 LGAs in 9 states, Adamawa, Bauchi, FCT, Lagos, Niger, Ogun, Bayelsa, Kebbi, and Ondo, using a targeted, equity-driven approach that prioritises children and communities most often left behind by health systems.
