About Us

Who We Are

Christian Health Association of Nigeria (CHAN) is a private not-for-profit umbrella faith-based non-governmental organization founded in 1973 by the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), the Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), and the Northern Christian Medical Advisory Council of Nigeria (NCMAC). The purpose of CHAN is to promote continued, effective, and efficient engagement of Church Health Services, by strengthening faith-based health systems amongst its Member Institutions (MIs) towards achieving equitable access to quality healthcare services in Nigeria. It is estimated that CHAN’s MIs together provide health care at the tertiary, secondary and primary levels to over 40% of the Nigeria population. CHAN has strong partnership with ministries and departments of health at all levels (Federal, State and Local Government Authorities (LGAs); and with other civil society, community-based and faith-based organisations. CHAN is also a member of the Africa Christian Health Association Platform (ACHAP).

Our Mission

To provide efficient services by building the capacity of members and collaborate with partners to improve the health for all in Nigeria.

Our Vision

Delivering holistic, efficient and responsive healthcare for all people in Nigeria.

We Grow by Helping People in Need

The health facilities are owned by more than 20 various Church denominations that operate health services in Nigeria.

  • CHAN Members are found in 35 out of 36 states of the Federation providing different levels of health care delivery services (except  Zamfara)
  • Our motto is reaching the unreached, thus most of our members are rural based and in hard to reach areas.
  • The services offered by CHAN are freely and easily accessed by all and the health care providers do not discriminate.
  • The main aim is to strengthen and coordinate church sponsored health care programmes and activities in the country within the National health policy and framework.
  • CHAN has partnered with the GoN at all levels since its inception
