CHAN OVERVIEW

The Christian Health Association of Nigeria (CHAN) is the umbrella organization for faith-based health organizations committed to providing quality healthcare services and strengthening health systems across Nigeria. We work collaboratively with government, development partners, and communities to improve health outcomes for all Nigerians.


PROJECT OVERVIEW

UNICEF in partnership with CHAN as a CSO is supporting the government to strengthen community engagement for Nigeria’s national Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination catch-up campaign and intensify HPV vaccination.

Over eight months, the initiative will mobilize several teams across wards in 774 LGAs nationwide for MR and target 257 low-performing LGAs in 15 states for HPV.

Activities include effective stakeholder mapping, training ward and community mobilizers, school and faith-based edutainment, tailored information materials, community dialogues to dispel rumours, and youth-friendly health service trainings.


POSITION: LGA CONSULTANT

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Local Government Technical Lead to coordinate and oversee health program implementation at the local government level. This role is critical in ensuring effective collaboration between CHAN and Local Government Areas (LGAs) to achieve sustainable health outcomes, provide logistics, financial and coordination support for MR/HPV vaccination implementation activities at the LGA level. Support Ward Development Committees, schools, community leaders and LGA Health Educators.

Reports to: State Technical Lead
Location: Assigned LGA: Benue (23 LGAs), Kaduna (23 LGAs), Nasarawa (13 LGAs), Jigawa (27 LGAs), Katsina (34 LGAs) and Akwa Ibom (16 LGAs)
Duration: 3 months with possibility of extension


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the LGA Health Educators to implement all the activities within the approved workplan and budget within the assigned LGA.

  • Support the implementation of all meetings with faith leaders, PTAs, influencers, WDCs, and partners.

  • Support advocacy events and SBC activities at the ward level.

  • Finance retirements for all activities.

  • Document all activities per workplan.


Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with LGA officials, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders.

  • Represent CHAN at LGA health meetings, review sessions, and planning forums.

  • Facilitate dialogue between health facilities, communities, and local government authorities.

  • Support advocacy efforts for improved health policy implementation at grassroots level.


Monitoring & Reporting

  • Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting from LGA-level activities.

  • Ensure timely submission of program reports to State consultant.


Required Skills & Expertise

  • Degree in Public Health, Social Sciences, or CHO/CHEW with reasonable field experience.

  • 3–5 years’ field experience in community mobilization and ACSM activities.

  • Strong facilitation and community engagement skills.

  • Familiarity with LGA health systems and actors.

  • Familiarity with the local context and sociocultural dynamics.

  • Skills in administrative, logistics, and financial management are CRITICAL.

  • Willingness to be engaged immediately.

  • Reports of all advocacy visits and community engagements.
